Histochemical Study on the Interstitial Glands Induced by the Autotransplantation of the Ovary after Castration


Abstract
The interstitial glands are frequent structures within the rodent¢¥s ovaries and appear as acinar aggregations of 5 to 10 cells within the ovarian stromal tissue. The cells have similar appearance with those of lutein granulosa cells of the ovary and Ledig¢¥s cells of the testicles. Although they are not frequent in human ovaries and do not form acinar structure, they incr-ease in number after menopause and related with functional changes after menopause(Thecosis). The glands had been described by schron and Pfluger, respectively and nomenclated as inter-stitial gland cells by Tourneux. Although they had been neglected by most authors, recently . clinical cases, such as thecosis and presence of enzymatically active stromal cells, (Cohen and the associator) and presence of fat globules (Cohen and the. associators) End glycogen (Mckay et; al, Oh, Chun and Kim, Soupart and Noyes) within these cells were reported. In order to confirm the presence of mucosubstance and its relationship with activities of hormone production the authors made castration, ovarian transplantation and histochemical study.
The follows were ensued.
1. The mucosubstance within the ovarian tissue was mostly neutral one and partly are positive to alcian blue .8GX staining at various PH level.
2. The amount of the mucosubstance within the. ovarian tissue was relatively correlated with the activities of hormone production and the degrees of developement.
3. The interstitiel gland cell¢¥ were derived from the atrectic follicles and might be transformeded into the "intermediate cells" and "hypertrophied interstitialcells".
4. Thus it might be suspected that the cells, containing larger amounts of mucosubstance, were more active in the productions of the hormone.
